Stewart has been Director of the Deep Sky Section since March 2004. Recently retired from the oil industry, where he was a research engineer investigating the lubrication of large marine diesel engines, he now lives in rural Essex where he has a 300mm reflector in a roll-off roof observatory. He enjoys travelling to observe the southern skies and to have access to large telescopes. Spending much of his working life staring at a computer screen, he now prefers the more leisurely pursuit of peering through an eyepiece – although he also spends too many hours again sitting in front of a computer running the Deep Sky Section.

| Assistant Director |
Owen Brazell
Owen has been involved with the deep sky section on and off since 1985 as visual co-ordinator and assistant director.. This makes him feel really old. Keeping up the oil industry mafia Owen works for Schlumberger an oil field services company and spends his time in all the places you would not pick for a holiday destination. He is now mainly involved in High Performance computing but finds time to chase down his favourite planetary nebulae using either a 20" Obsession or his 130mm refractor as well as editing the Webb Society journal.
