To represent the Deep Sky interests of the membership of the BAA; to advise both newcomers and experienced observers of methods, activities, resources etc; to coordinate the projects of the section, in co-operation with other sections (when appropriate); and promote Deep Sky observing in general.

A Messier Catalogue - 3rd edition 2005 (£2.50). A 72 page booklet providing data and descriptions of the 110 entries in this famous first Deep Sky Catalogue, as well as basic observing tips and a list of reference works. There is space to record your own observations.

A Deep-Sky Catalogue - 2nd edition 1997(£2.50). This is Handbook No.3, and replaces Handbook No.1( of which a very few copies remain). Compiled by Owen Brazell using the Saguaro Astronomy Club (USA) database, it lists many of the best or most interesting objects in each constellation, listed by constellation. It represents an excellent and affordable resource for the observer who wishes to plan an evening's observing of objects beyond the Messier list.

Any member of the BAA or member of an affiliated society can join the Section.  Newsletters are issued 2 or 3 times a year.  These are free to anyone contributing observations to the Section otherwise the cost is £4 for 3 issues.  Anyone interested in joining the Section should contact the Director, but BAA members who do not wish to join are still very welcome to submit observations and other written material.
