The second set of images (AstroBin RevisionC) taken on the morning of July 24 2026 confirms, what I believe is the presence of this feature. An explanation: When I first processed the stack of 48 × 240 second exposures I noticed a faint wide banding paralleling the main orbital trail. Although present in two tandem RASA 11 scopes, one scope using a mono camera, the other color, I thought the elongated feature spanning the comet’s length was simply an artifact of capture/processing. Under better seeing and transparency conditions the following morning, I captured 37 × 240sec exposures, with the same setup, July 24th showing once again this unknown feature with a little more clarity. Equipment Used: Twin Celestron 11" Rowe-Ackermann Schmidt Astrograph (RASA 11)scopes. Cameras includes one with a ZWO asi6200mmPro, the other RASA11 holding a ZWO asi 6200mcPro. Both riding tandemly on a 10Micron GM200hps mount. How the images were processed: Minimal processing in PixInsight was deliberately performed to hopefully maintain the integrity of what is seen of the comet. Steps performed include image calibration, cosmetic correction, Debayering for the color images. star and comet alignment, stacking, cropping to eliminate stacking artifacts, gradient removal and stretching for each panel. No noise reduction or deconvolution was used. All panels underwent nearly the exact same processing procedures to keep the uniformity and standardization of the view (note that color images were debayered). |
