Hello Comet 141P Machholz 2 is developing excitingly. Tonight (dec 7 UT17.30) I was able to find two more diffuse fragments in front of the main component, which is now 13m5 bright. I have sent the positions to neocp. The feedback was, none of the objects is known. Now it could still be fragments from the past that have already been observed or new ones. Both objects are largely uncondensed and 1-2 arc minutes in size - I estimate the brightness to be roughly 17m5. The observation was made from a dark mountain location with 11 "/2.2 RASA QHY600 and green filter. My interest in this comet is not new. I discovered one of the first fragments in 1994. Is it still active? Michael Jäger I removed stars around the three comets so that the components can be seen better |
