Had a wonderful visual view of C/2012 X1 and Globular cluster NGC 6760 in the same FOV this morning through my 12" Mewlon, sketch attached. Relatively low down and skies quite murky in that area. My sky 6 program showed them only 15' apart. Visually the core of the comet and the GC didn't look that dissimilar. Both had a brighter core and a slightly more tenuous halo. Comet slightly larger and brighter. GC possibly a touch grannular but low down and seeing not good. GC listed as mag 9.1. Comet had a tenuous tail which seemed to extend past and engulf the GC, also appeared to be a bit of 'striation' effect in the tail but I was on the limit observing that effect so could just have been the milky skies. Also moved on to a visual view of 2013 R1 Lovejoy but no sketch just enjoyed. Andrew Robertson |
