Attached is a LRGB image of Comet Loveday 2014 Q2 captured last Friday evening 16 January around 23:45. The image comprises 10 x 60 seconds each of luminance, red, green and blue subs. I have a suspicion that the sky conditions had become less transparent compared with the conditions when I took the luminance-only image at 21:40 the same evening that I sent out two days ago. It is interesting to comparing the colour image image with the luminance-only image captured two hours earlier. One gets a sense of the comet moving against the background of stars and also the large boat-shaped feature towards the left in the tail is further from the head in the colour image. Telescope: Skywatcher Equinox ED80 with a X0.85 reducer/flattener. Field of view is approx 147 x 109 arc min. Pixel scale is 2.62 arc sec/pixel. The image has been cropped very slightly to remove the non overlapping edges. Camera: QSI 583 wsg with a Lodestar as off-axis guider Mount: Skywatcher EQ6 Auto-focusing by Scopefocus working with Nebulosity for image capture |
