I finally observed succesfully C/2018 V1 (Machholz-Fujikawa-Iwamoto) one hour ago. I used my 150 mm (6") F/5 achromat to spot it. Itas magnitude was 8,8, the diameter of coma is 2,5', DC is 6-7. I wasn't able to observe any traces of the tail. The comet wasn't observable with pairs of 15x70 even 20x80 binoculars. Finally, bright Venus showed herself above the rooftops. It was a very clear, calm dawn, with temperature of +10 degs in Celsius. I was also able to observe 38P/Stephan-Oterma in Gemini when it culminates. Coma was 2,3' with brightness of 10,5. Coma was slightly elongated. Sketch shows C/2018 V1, made by 15cm f/5, mirror diagonal, 53x, FOV is 70'. |
