Attached is an observation of the comet C/2022 E3 ZTF. Seeing was good but the bright full moon did interfere but the comet was still very easy to see and showed some lovely subtle structure at x150. The drawing on the left shows how the comet appeared in my 12” Newtonian at x150, the drawing on the right lists a few field stars to show the orientation of the stellar field. I made another estimate of the comet's magnitude. I chose the star HR1668 which is a A F5V main sequence star in Auriga with a listed Mv= 5.7. Using the Pogson step method my estimate of the comet's magnitude is '57+6' which gives a Mv ~ 5.1. Based on my own estimates of the comet's magnitude so far, it seems to be very closely following its theoretical light curve! |
