A low (45 Angstrom) resolution spectrum covering the central 2 arcmin diameter of the coma with an experimental, potentially higher efficiency version of the ALPY 200. The full length of the slit covers ~6 arcmin, approx 2/3 of the diameter of the inset in this image by Nick James taken at the same time. (The image is uncorrected for the instrument response and atmospheric extinction so does not show the CN line in the violet at its true strength, as seen in the spectrum plot. The line above the central coma is from a field star passing through the slit) |
