A new amateur comet discovery! C/2023 P1 Nishimura on 2023 August 14 at 20:00UT. using a C11 RASA f/2.2 + Canon 6D. 3 mins. FOV 30'. North up. from Swan Hill, Victoria, Aus Hideo Nishimura from Kakegawa, Japan, discovered this comet on 2023 Aug. 12.78 UT using a Canon 6D digital camera and 200-mm lens. It has been 2 years since his last find C/2021 O1. It arrives at perihelion on Sep 18 at 0.22AU. Unfortunately, viewing circumstances will be poor as it locates within 35 degrees of the Sun for the next 3 months. Southerners can catch the comet low in the morning sky in Gemini over the next couple of weeks before it is lost to Northern skies. There is a high risk of disintegrating. |
