10th Magnitude Comet 220P/ McNaught Breaches Two Lunar Diameters - August 23 2026

Project Notes:
 

    Comet 220P/ McNaught continues to lengthen. 
    Tail measured is two full moons in apparent length at 61.2 arc minutes and brightness of the comet measured at magnitude of 9.8. 
    Considerable dust and/or IFN in the FOV. 
    A little over 5 hours of integration time with twin scopes were used. 
    As usual, color calibration was performed with PixInsight's SpectrometricColorCalibration process using a white balance of the spectral class of our sun as reference.  Ideally this process lends to a more true rendition of a comet/nebula color however saturation of colors is the processor's choice. Ref: https://pixinsight.com/examples/C2022-E3-ZTF/
