Comet 46p/Wirtanen a few minutes after it appeared - at an altitude of 15° yesterday evening out of the sea of clouds below us (our observatory at 1180 m altitude is often above the clouds). One can recognize the siluettes of the pine trees as dark shadows (blurred by the tracking of the mount). Although the background is uneven and streaky due to the proximity of the horizon, I still thought that this shot conveys a beautiful atmosphere. Currently the comet culminates at 28° ALT. That is why it is not yet visible from Europe. But soon it will rise rapidly and at its maximum brightness will be near the zenith.
