M100 is a member of the Virgo cluster of galaxies but actually located in the south of Coma Berenices at about 55 my distant. NGC4312 is the other prominent galaxy in the field. NGC4328 just above M100 in the image is a satellite galaxy, as is NGC4323 at about 2pm on the image.

Captured from 4 to 6 May. There were some background optical defects in the luminance subs that were not removed by the flats so I have had to work quite hard, perhaps to the detriment of the fainter fuzzies. Processing in Pixinsight.
