I am considering  a 2.7 m.  It would be very helpful to me if i could visit a member’s observatory to see what its like in use. The one i am considering will have the dome and slot motors.  You could reply to me off line if you prefer. My address is

    tvh.observatory@btinternet.com

I live not far from Bicester in Oxfordshire, and i can drive any distance within reason. Please let me know where you are if you can help.

    Cheers – Tim

    Hi Tim,

I can’t help you with an observatory visit I’m afaid but would like to make a comment.
I was considering the purchase of a pulsar dome some time ago but decided the opening aperture was too narrow and didn’t go far enough over the zenith.
Other dome manufacturers provide much wider opening slot apertures and go further over the zenith so are more useful if you’ve got a telescope with a piggyback guide or second scope.
    Just thought I’d say!

    Tim,

my comments would be the same as Peter’s.  I have a C14 and I find the lack of access to the zenith and it’s vicinity  rather a problem and interferes with time series exposures.  I would also appreciate a larger aperture .  I don’t know what present models are like, but I would hope the access to the zenith would have improved.  My dome is manually operated and being some years old and ex-demo the newer automated system does not work with it.

    Good luck,

    Eric

Thanks for your input gentlemen. Yes, the observing slit and zenith view are on my query list. Also the view to the Southern horizon is a bit limited without some additional design work inside. I have a good horizon, and would like to make full use of it.

I now have an invite to visit a member’s 2.7m dome.   The Scopedome 3m is also on my short list.

Thanks again for your general comments.

    Tim
