A tale of two comets

14inch LX200 SCT at f/10
EQ8 mount

Both comets C/2019 Y4 ATLAS and C/2017 T2 PANSTARRS are now in a similar part of the sky. PANSTARRS has remained at a fairly constant magnitude and is currently around 8.6. ATLAS should by now be nearly naked eye visibility but instead has faded dramatically. The top images in this montage show how faint ATLAS has become in a single 60 second exposure compared to PANSTARRS. PANSTARRS is down the left hand side and ATLAS the right hand side in these sequences.
