Just finished the ground-works for the dome collected from Somerset back in February, the one that was advertised for sale in the December 2019 Journal. It's been quite a job. Expected some help but with lock-down I've ended up doing the whole lot single-handed. It's had to be set down in the ground a bit for (a) planning (the dome is big) and (b) to reduce the shading of a nearby greenhouse on the NE side. The plinth is for the Hysom/AE telescope which I acquired as not much more than a wreck in early 2017 and have been renovating. It's a 14-inch f5/f21 Classical Newtonian Cassegrain. It's a challenge assembling the massive fork mount and OTA with it sitting on the workshop floor so I'm anxiously looking at that plinth and wondering how on earth I get it up there. A non-astronomer friend whom I stayed with while visiting Somerset was a bit perplexed by the idea of acquiring the dome. Suddenly his face lit up with understanding. "Ah" he said "this is like getting a garage for your classic car."
