Mercury Observing Guide

Mercury Observing Guide

This guide is intended to be a collection of useful information and techniques to help and encourage anyone who wants to observe Mercury at any level.
Mercury, the innermost planet of the Solar System, receives relatively little attention from amateur astronomers. This means the value of a good observation is increased by its rarity. It is also one of very few bodies in the Solar System to show a solid surface on which detail can be seen. Careful observation or imaging of Mercury can thus reveal permanent markings that few will have seen before.
