Last year some people passed on unwanted astronomical literature at either no cost, or for postage only.  I promised that I would do likewise if I received duplicates or unwanted material. This is the first step in that process.

I have the following duplicates of the BAA Handbook available: 1964–66, 1968–1973, 1977&1978 — 11 volumes in all.

Free to a good home, especially if you can fill any gaps in my collection! The ones I am missing are 1979, 1985–1987, 2002–2019 and any before 1949.

    Hi Paul,
I’d like a copy of 1978 if you don’t mind please.
Happy to pay postage costs of course.
    Regards
    Michael.

    Well done guys !

The Handbook has some historical value.

Interesting how the Asteroids part has evolved over the years as new objects and new classes of object are discovered. Similarly the opportunities for observing asteroid occultations has grown dramatically and continue to improve as Gaia completes its work over the next few years.

Thanks to the generosity of several members there are now very few gaps in my collection of BAA handbooks. I also have a few which can be provided to anyone interested.

    My missing volumes are now 1979, 1985, 2004, 2005, 2007 and everything before 1949.

Available free to good homes are 1964-66, 1968-73, 1977 and 2010.

VSS Circulars from the late 90s may become available if anyone is interested. They need sorting out before I can say yay or nay.

Not forgetting the thousands of extremely large “asteroids” now known to be orbiting other stars.

Long after I became an adult I read that detecting, let alone characterizing, exoplanets was essentially impossible. This view became even more widespread after the debunking of claims of astrometric detection of planets orbiting Barnard’s Star.

These days the ARPS provide data for the BAA Handbook and exoplanetary observation has become, if not routine, then certainly mainstream in the amateur community.

If anyone has the early copies of the handbook, I am looking for these to fill gaps in the Society for the History of Astronomy Library. The earliest I’ve got is 1936 so looking for the 15 or so before this.

    Thanks

I would like to add to the above discussion that the BAA Internet shop does not list all the available copies of the Handbook that we have for sale. The office has access to the stock for recent years, but the older stock is kept somewhere else in a storage depot out of London. In fact we have copies for sale for almost every year back to 1938, so if you need a particular issue or a run of years, before the ones available at the shop, let me know and I can advise availability, and we can arrange payment via the BAA office.

The same applies to older copies of the Journal, back to 1934, and the Memoirs (albeit a very patchy stock) back to the same time. Again please write to me as I visit the depot from time to time and can access the issues.

    Wonderful!

An earlier posting indicates which ones are missing from my collection and I would like to acquire any of those which you may have available. I am in La Palma right now but perhaps we can arrange payment to you and delivery to SWMBO who is still back in the UK.

Please feel free to email me.

You can contact me with your wants list privately Paul, when you return, because I don’t look at the Forum regularly. See the back of the journal for my email address, please.

I have a lot of Handbook and Journal back-issues now from the collection of the late Bob Garner of Greenford, Middlesex.

I have plugged the gaps in my collection, so if anyone needs any, do let me know which you are seeking, before I dispose of the rest of them.

Already mailed my wants to David.

I also have a few duplicates, so between us perhaps we can make a more complete collection for anyone else interested in building up a library.
