Jupiter’s moons in front of their shadows

On 2016 March 7/8, just 11 to 9 hours before opposition, Europa and Io crossed Jupiter’s disk together in front of their respective shadows.  This rare and beautiful event was widely observed in the UK and western Europe, even though most observers had poor seeing.  Galleries of images (and a few drawings) have been posted on the BAA Jupiter Section web pages under ‘Jupiter in 2015/16:  Report no.4 & 4B’, at:
