About this image

Jan captured this image remotely, using his own equipment which is installed at the site in Alcali, Spain.  At a distance of about 1,500 light years, the veil nebula is a large supernova remnant from a massive star.  It is an expanding cloud resulting from the explosion of the star which occurred ~ 5,000 years ago.  The area covered is now about 70 light years across and from Earth this is an apparent size of about 6 Moon diameters in the sky.
