[BAA Comets] Comet 17P/Holmes: A marked outburst on January 26

Thanks for responding so quickly Nick.

My magnitude estimate at 14th is based on a jpeg and furthermore there is a 
field star in amongst the coma so I am willing to believe it could in fact 
be nearer to mag 16. The jpeg tends enhances the coma contribution by 
stretching the fainter end of the image. Until I can get my hands on the 
FITS frames I am stuck.

The image you sent me separately just includes the location the comet was at 
when the FTN images were secured and where the field star is located.

Can you do an fwhm on your comet image?
