Richard,

That's a great shot of a sadly maligned comet. You wouldn't get that 
kind of view from Sea Walls now, there are far too many lights around in 
that part of Bristol.

1974 Jan 10 was during the UK's infamous "three day week" when use of 
power was restricted due to the energy crisis and a coal strike. It may 
have been that a lot of the lights were off then hence the impressive 
view. Can you remember whether that was the case when you took the image.
