Hi Denis et al,
I obtained  6 images of C/2013 X1 PanStarrs on 2015 12 31 between 2156 and 2209 UT (120sec. Exposures) in mediocre conditions ( it was also a bit later than I would have liked and the comet was at quite a low altitude for imaging). I can understand folk thinking it was in outburst since it was quite a sight. I also managed to view it with 20x100B and can confirm Jon's observations that it was quite large and diffuse but not as easy to pick up as 2014 S2 Panstarrs ( which was also imaged during the same session) and which I have been observing visually, with 20 x 100 B, over several weeks.
My earlier set of images of 2013 X1 were made on 2015 12 08, before a Christmas holiday absence, between 2025 and 2048 UT. They show a slightly smaller coma diameter, slightly narrower tail but overall a very similar appearance. No visual observation of the comet was made that evening.

Just observed 2013 X1 at magnitude 8.4 and 9' coma! This is exceptionally bright, far above the expected light curve! Especially, just a few days ago, I saw it getting dim down to mag 9.8 or so. Whatever is going on with this comet?

I measured it on the 20th and 29th Dec. It was only 0.3 mag different. The tail shape and extent has significantly changed over the last few weeks making it now more impressive.

           I've just observed C/2013 X1 in the last 5 minutes (20:57 UT) with my 8" SCT and I found it considerably brighter and larger than I expected it to be (~8.5 or slightly brighter).  It's much more impressive than C/2014 S2.

Has anyone else noticed this?
