The times calculated here may differ by a few minutes from the times given in the current BAA Handbook. The reason for this is that the method of calculation for the Handbook relies on several approximations, as described in J.Br.Astron.Assoc.,86,416 (1976). The calculations done above use instead the algorithm given in Astronomical Algorithms, by Jean Meeus which iterates to converge on the correct values. This is necessary because the Moon moves through a large angle (nearly 13°) in one day.
