The brightest 3,690 stars
The following table of 3,690 of the brightest stars is derived from catalogue IV/27, HD-DM-GC-HR-HIP-Bayer-Flamsteed Cross Index (Kostjuk, 2002), from the Centre de Données astronomiques de Strasbourg (CDS) at http://cdsweb.u-strasbg.fr/CDS.html. That catalogue provided all of the identifier columns except Tycho, along with position (J2000) and V magnitudes. Tycho identifiers and B - V colour indices have been added by looking stars up in the Tycho catalogue (tyc_main.dat, from the same source) by their Hipparcos numbers. Variability flags have been obtained by looking up in the Hipparcos catalogue (hip_main.dat, from the same source).
