Aims & Objectives

The Sun is a very active member of our solar system and for this reason we encourage members to send in details of their observations as soon as possible so as to keep us all well informed on Solar activity. Programmes of work:

  • Naked-eye spots
  • Counts of Active Areas and Relative Sunspot Numbers
  • 152mm (6-inch) whole disk drawings
  • Drawings of individual spots and groups
  • Coloured sunspots
  • Bright faculae in the sunspot zones
  • Polar faculae
  • Photographs of the solar disk and of individual spots and groups
  • Observations in hydrogen-alpha of prominences, filaments, flares.
