Director:

The Aurora and Noctilucent Cloud Section was first formed in 1899 although under a different name. Its purpose is to encourage the observation and reporting of both the aurora and NLC events in the Northern Hemisphere. The present observer network comprises members of the BAA, other astronomical societies and individual observers. Observations are collected mainly from the British Isles and European countries with a few reports being received from Canada and the United States. The original reports as received from observers are placed in the archives of Aberdeen University, Scotland, and a summary of observations are published in newsletters and reports and technical papers that are published in the BAA Journal.

If you would like to join the Section, or have any queries regarding the aurora or NLC then please contact the Director.
