Title

NGC 3178, 3729 and Hickson 56 - Peter Carson

About this image

NGC 3178 (right) NGC 3729 (left) and Hickson 56 (below centre) This group of galaxies in Ursa Major passes overhead in late spring. This image was recently compiled from exposures taken at the spring Kelling star party under the dark Norfolk skies. I used a 100 mm refractor and a Starlight Xpress HX916 CCD camera. The exposure was 2 hrs 30 mins in total duration. 105 mins luminance binned 1 x 1 and 15 mins each colour binned 1x1. All sub exposures were 300 seconds long. The image is about 50 minutes of arc wide and North is up. Peter Carson.
