About this image

As we approach Hallowe'en this fascinating image of vdb-141, which is called the "Ghost Nebula" would seem to be appropriate. It is in the constellation of Cepheus and was taken by astro-photographer Jan Rek between 3rd and 12th May 2011 from his remote observatory at Weed, New Mexico. Elevation 7269 ft. Lat 32.8N Long 195.5W. Equipment used was an Officina Stellare RC400 at 3278mm focal length (f/8.2) on a Paramount ME German equatorial Mount. Camera was an SBIG ST-11000M with FW-5L filter wheel. Pointing software was TheSky V6, image capture used CCDSoft V 5.0, all in a ScopeDome remote observatory. This was a remote session using RADMIN PC control from Ravenshead, UK. Exposures: 13 x 20min + 5x10min Luminance:90:90:90 mins R:G:B, using 10 min sub-exposures -15C. All images binned 1x1. You can see more of Jan's work at http://www.ravensheadobservatory.com/
