About this image
This image of asteroid (2043) Ortutay was takenas it passed close to Alcyone in M45 between 21.17 on 27th December 2013 and 01.24 on 28th December 2013. The image is an inverted stack of 15x4 minute exposures, followed by 14x8 minute exposures.At the time of imaging the objectwas at a distance of 2.02au fromEarth at magnitude 15.2. The small gap in the middle of the "line"resulted froma half hour gap whenSimon was not able to collect subs due to a meridian flip (don't you just hate those?). Heused a Canon 350D at prime focus on an 8" F4.5 Orion Optics CT8reflector. Stacking was carried out using Nebulosity with post processing in Photoshop. The image was taken fromSimon'shome in Bedfordshire.
