About this image

NGC 281, also known as the "Pac Man" Nebula because of its similarity to the electronic game character, is high in the winter sky in the constellation of Cassiopeia. This image was taken by Peter from his light polluted back garden in Leigh on sea, Essex.

Equipment used was a 100 mm Televue f5.4 refractor on a Losmandy G11 mount, with a Starlight Lodestar autoguider and SBIG ST8300M CCD camera with Astrodon 3nm SII, OIII and Ha narrow band filters. Images were acquired using Maxim DL Pro 5 software.

The Tri-colour image was mapped according to the Hubble palette with RGB stars. Exposures were 1 hour unbinned for each narrow band filter using 15 minute subs.  Stars were exposed for 8 mins per RGB colour unbinned in 2 min subs.

Total exposure time was 3hours 24 minutes
