About this image

This nive image was taken by Ian during several weeks in September, using the 16" ASA f/3.5 Astrograph at Siding Spring, NSW, Australia. At about 10 light-years distance, this galaxy is laced with lanes of dust, and the associated bright, hot, young stars that go with frenetic star-formation. So much activity has earned it the status of a 'star-burst' galaxy which emit copius amounts of high-energy X and Gamma rays.

Exposure details are:

L: 31x240s = 124 mins
R: 23x240s = 92 mins
G: 21x240s = 84 mins
B: 19x240s = 76 mins
Ha: 10x900s = 150 mins

CCD Camera used was an Apogee Aspen CG16070.
The system FOV is 87'x58' at 1.1 arcsecs per pixel (this image was cropped slightly).
