About this image

Alan Tough sent this one in and it seemed to be appropriate for Christmas. The star is Canopus (alpha Carinae) and it is the second brightest star in the night sky after Sirius, with a visual magnitude of -0.72. Canopus is a supergiant and to see it you have to be well south as it has a declination of -52d 42m. The telescope used was iTelescope T27 at Siding Spring Observatory, New South Wales, Australia. It is a Planewave 27" CDK @ f/6.6, with a FLI PL09000 CCD camera.

Astrodon LRGB filter set and 60 Second exposures per filter.

FOV is 27.1 x 27.1 arc-mins.
