About this image

BAA member and astro-photographer Ian Sharp has been spending his winters in southern Spain and has produced some stunning images.  This one, as we approach the end of 2016 is a superb image of the winter Milky Way region, showing majestic Orion as it heads for the western horizon, and the myriad areas of nebulosity for which this area is famous. In this composite image Ian has taken two series of exposures, one to pull as much information as possible from the sky, and the other to image the static mountainside.  Now that's astro-photography!
