ATMOSPHERIC OPTICS - LUNAR CORONA

About this image

In the night of 7th to 8th March 2017 the waxing moon (80%) encountered Altocumulus clouds, type Undulatus. As a result a nice colourful lunar corona was visible for (only) three minutes. Three red rings were visible (R1,R2,R3). A Mie theory based model was used to calculate the mean droplet/ice crystal particle diameter.
