About this image

The International Space Station was due to transit the gibbous moon on the morning of 14th July 2017. It was a bright transit, with the ISS coming out of shadow about 5 seconds before transiting the moon. I had my Canon 5D Mk3 at prime focus of my Celestron EdgeHD 925 SCT. I had a GPS so I had the exact time and could start a rapid burst of shots before the time of the transit and stop afterwards.

I stacked the shots with the ISS visible in Photoshop and this photograph shows the passage of the ISS across the moon. The surface brightness of the ISS was somewhat less than the Moon so the ISS appears darker on the surface of the Moon and bright against the dark sky.
