About this image

A clear night last night saw a further display of NLC here at Tarbatness. It was first seen immediately after dusk as low bright strands 10 high over the northern horizon. The display became more easily visible as the sky darkened at local midnight. It remained low in the north covering around 90 degrees of azimuth. As the night went on the display spread to over 180 degrees of azimuth and by dawn strands could be seen at altitudes of over 50 degrees high. It never got very bright but remained visible in the ever brightening dawn sky.
