On the 14^th May 2017, it was reported that amateur astronomer Patrick Wiggins in Utah, USA had discovered a new supernova, SN 2017eaw, in NGC 6946 http://www.skyandtelescope.com/astronomy-news/observing-news/possible-bright-supernova-discovered-in-fireworks-galaxy-ngc-6946/

I captured this image of NGC6946 in August 2017 with SN2017eaw still shining at around magnitude 13.7.

The image was calibrated, stacked and processed using PixInsight application.

Really very nice: good resolution and colour balance. You clearly have an amazing mount and imaging setup.

Thank you for the comment David. The mount is a Celestron CGEM. There was a review of them in the February edition of Astronomy Now. This is a mount that has been around a long time. I think it is a good match for the OTA that I am putting on it, a Celestron 9.25 EdgeHD SCT. I'm not sure if it would work so well with anything heavier than that plus the peripherals for imaging.

The Cornish maritime climate means there is not much opportunity for taking monochrome images with LRGB filters so I use a one shot colour camera. I know many would think that that is a serious compromise for astrophotography but I think my limiting factor is the quality of the astronomer rather than the quality of the equipment - so it works for me.
