Learning astrometry

About this image

I have been learning how to use Herbert Raab's excellent astrometry software. I solved an image of C/2017 O1 ASASSN (that I had taken) using the software and have been experimenting with the various features.

Good to see you are getting into astrometry, David.

All the best,

David, Astrometrica is a great program and it is used by many people. If you'd like to send me your astrometry and your lat/long I can check it for you. There is some information on doing comet astrometry using Astrometrica in the Comet Observiing Guide available as a PDF here.

Thanks Nick - I'll do this for a couple of objects and forward you the information. I haven't been able to face getting up early for Heinze again! I'm hoping the 'track and stack' function in Astrometrica will prove useful for me when building an image of that target - it seems to work on ASASSN if you solve the individual frames and then plug in the movement and position angle supplied by the MPC website.
