The galaxy in the middle here is M87, a giant elliptical galaxy. It is probably about fifty times the size of an average spiral galaxy. It is of the cD0-1 pec type. M87 is a prominent source of low to high energy electromagnetic radiation - from radio waves to X and gamma rays.
