About this image
Time stated is UT. The y axis label is intensity, although no instrument response correction has been applied.
I also used the Aperture Photometry Tool to measure the instrumental mags of the nova and nearby TYC star in a 1s frame, where the stars are well, but not overexposed. I get a mag of 8.5.
Calculation:
V392 Per Nova = -14.221
TYC star (known V band mag 9.33) = -13.3844
Delta = 0.8366
Therefore Nova = 8.4934
This is obviously an approximation, as the colours of the two objects are quite different.

Hi David I measured the magnitude in iris using Aperture photometry last night May 6 21-17UT mine came out at 8.63m, so pretty close to your estimate.

Hi David,
It was good to meet you in person at the Newcastle meeting. Great to see you are putting your Star Analyser to good use.
Andy
Good to speak to you in person, Andy. I hope you enthused a few in the audience to take up spectroscopy - I’m really enjoying looking at the various types of object with the StarAnalyser.
