Mercury in infrared, June 22nd

About this image

A long session over around six hours, combining imaging periods in both morning and afternoon. Clouds intervened in the morning before I could acquire enough data. In six hours, Mercury rotates about 1.5 degrees in longitude, an amount which is well below the resolution of these images! Comparison of this result with the previous one from June 18th shows that the bright feature Kuiper has now moved closer to the limb, and the phase has also changed noticeably.

Mercury reaches dichotomy on July 7th, at a magnitude of +0.2, and will become very difficult to follow after that time.
