About this image

Mercury just past dichotomy and quite hard to locate at mag 0.22. The low contrast of the planet against the sky required higher gain than on previous occasions, so the images are rather noisy, and the poor seeing meant that there are fewer good frames to stack. One or two bright features can be seen with some confidence, but overall this is a disappointing result. Mercury next attains usable magnitude around the end of August.
