About this image
This is a 6 panel high resolution mosaic of the Mare Crisium region of the Moon illuminated by the lunar sunset on day 17 of lunation. The component images were captured at prime focus of the C14 using a green filter with the ASI120MM-s camera. Many craters, rilles and other surface details down to less than 5km (3 miles) diameter are visible throughout the image.
The relatively level, but somewhat uneven terrain of Palus Somin that lies along the northeastern edge of Mare Tranquillitatis and the Sinus Concordiae is visible to the west of Crisium. To north of Crisium lies the prominent 126km diameter crater Cleomedes, with 30km long Rima Cleomedes just visible under zoom. For scale reference purposes, the central crater within Cleomedes, known as Cleomedes B has a diameter of 13km.
Other significant craters visible include Macrobius (dia 65km) and Tarantius (dia 56km).
