My memory of the 11th August 1999 Total Solar Eclipse

Just before and Just after totality on 11th August 1999. (At totality despite being near local midday, it was so dark that I could not see my feet on the grass.)

At first it was just heavy cloud. A little before totally we were parked in and couldn't move. It began drizzling and all the instruments, mushroom like, started sprouting umbrellas.
