About this image

This is a great variable star for beginners. Strikingly red and surrounded by good comparison stars, this Mira-type star varies between extreme maximum of 4.4 and extreme minmum of 11.3 over around 312 days. It may be approaching this year's maximum around now. This image's colour is distorted by the IDAS filter and Canon 60Da used (I was doing other things!)  but now is a good time to aquaint yourself with this lovely star.
