Black Arrow and May 2011 conjunction

About this image

A close up of the Black Arrow rocket that rests in the park in central Woomera. The May 2011 planetary conjunction is seen to the right. Alas, the focus wasnt perfect and the stars are a bit deformed but it was nice to see.

People tend to forget the UK were the 4th nation to launch a satellite using a home designed launch vehicle. A unique system, it lofted the Prospero satellite into orbit after the programme was cancelled by a particularly dumb and naive government decision. Theres used to be one in the science museum too.
