About this image

Only the first part of this partial eclipse was visible from Brisbane Australia.  This image, which has been contrasted and brightened slightly, is one of a series of the Moon sinking towards the western horizon. The strong colouration was atmospheric because it was near dawn (sunrise at 20hrs 37min), and at low altitude. (The distant hills are less than 2 degrees in altitude.) The umbral part of the eclipse commenced at 20hrs 02min.

Because of the poor 'seeing' at such low altitude, the 500mm lens was chosen rather than something more powerful.
