About this image

This years eclipse in Chile occurred on my birthday, an opportunity too good to miss never having seen a total eclipse. 1999 was only seen as a partial eclipse. An awe inspiring event seen from a superb site, after the sun set a magnificent dark sky rounded off a great day.

Left to right the domes on the ridge are Southern Astrophysical Research Telescope, Gemini South and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope.
