About this image

A cropped view of Mercury during the ingress phase of this months transit.  It was a very interesting sight visually and there was a definite sensation of black drop effect. I can see how difficult timings must have been for those trying to get accurate timings for the Venus Transit in 1769 when trying to establish the solar parallax and hence the sun's distance.
